X JAPAN to sing for Tezuka Osamu’s new anime film

X JAPAN will be singing a theme song for upcoming anime film “Tezuka Osamu no Buddha -Akai Sabaku yo! Utsukushiku-“.  As the title of the film says, “Tezuka Osamu no Buddha -Akai Sabaku yo! Utsukushiku-” is originally a manga “Buddha” drawn by “God of Mnaga”, Tezuka Osamu, and this will be the very first time for the manga to get a film adaptation.  The anime film will be released as a trilogy, and the first part is set to be released on May 28th 2011.
The theme song is titled “Scarlet Love Song“, and it’s a ballad song.  YOSHIKI commented, “I have always loved animation since I was little, so I’m very happy to participate in this.” The song will be released next year, but no details have been revealed yet.  Starting December 23rd, the movie trailer using “Scarlet Love Song” will be aired at theaters.

Taiwan warmly welcomes Matsuyama Kenichi!

Actor Matsuyama Kenichi visited Taiwan on December 16th in order to promote his latest film “Norwegian Wood“, and he received quite the reception at the airport!
This is Matsuyama’s second visit to Taiwan; his previous visit was for the Asia campaign for “L change the World” (2008). The actor enjoys quite a large popularity there due to his involvement in “Death Note“(2006) and “Detroit Metal City“(2008).
On the day Matsuyama arrived in Taiwan, many fans showed up to the airport in order to welcome him, and he was interviewed by more than 10 different local media outlets.
“Norwegian Wood” will be released on December 17th in Taiwan on 30 screens, the largest release of any Japanese film to date.

DIR EN GREY’s “Lotus” album cover + details revealed

Rock band DIR EN GREY is gearing up to release their 26th single, “Lotus” for January 26th. Fans are eagerly counting down the days, as it’s been a year and two months since their last release, “Hageshisa to, Kono Mune no Naka de Karamitsuita Shakunetsu no Yami“.
It’s been revealed that for this single, the band has hired Jason Suecof as their mixing engineer. Jason’s resume boasts of having working with TRIVIUM, ALL THAT REMAINS, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, and DEATH ANGEL.
As always, “Lotus” will come in two versions: a ‘limited edition’ and a ‘regular edition’. The limited edition will come with a DVD that contains three songs from their live concert at SHINKIBA STUDIO COAST back in July form their “THE UNWAVERING FACT OF TOMORROW TOUR 2010“.

Details on Studio Ghibli’s new animated film revealed!

Studio Ghibli has been working on a new animated film called”Kokuriko-zaka kara“, and they’ve recently released some details about the project.
According to the December 15th announcement, it will be directed by Miyazaki Goro – the eldest son of Miyazaki Hayao - as well as by a director from “Tales from Earthsea” (released back in July 2006).
“Kokuriko-zaka kara” was originally a serialized manga published through the comic magazine “Nakayoshi” back in 1980; it revolves around the story of a high school girl named ‘Komatsuzaki Umi’, and takes place in Yokohama in 1963.
Singer Teshima Aoi, who debuted with the theme song “Teru no Uta” for “Tales from Earthsea”, will provide a theme song for this new animated  film as well.
“Kokuriko-zaka kara” is set to be released in summer 2011, and we can’t wait to see what Studio Ghibli has in store!

Sasaki Nozomi is 33rd on the “MOST BEAUTIFUL FACES” list

“TC Candler” has announced the result of their annual critics list of “MOST BEAUTIFUL FACES 2010“, and Japanese model, Sasaki Nozomi is ranked in 33rd place.  The No.1 most beautiful face was Camila Belle, and No.2 as Emma Watson.

GACKT : on Tetsuko no Heya

As we reported earlier, GACKT made an appearance on the afternoon talk show, “Tetsuko no Heya (Tetsuko’s Room)” which was broadcasted on December 13th. GACKT talked about an actor, Ogata Ken, who co-starred with him on NHK’s historical drama, “Fuurinkazan“. Ogata passed away in 2008.
We’ve got the video below, as well as some translations, during the segment where GACKT discusses his relationship and reverence for the actor (starts at 13:35).

HYDE takes to voice acting for “Bakuman”

 

HYDE from popular rock unit, VAMPS recently participated in voice acting for the anime “Bakuman.” This was his first time voice acting and he showed up at the recording on December 13th.  ”Bakuman” is an ongoing manga on “Weekly Shonen Jump“, and it’s a story of boys who are trying to be manga-ka.
HYDE will play as “HYDE,” a producer of “KOOGY” (Morikubo Shotaro) who is a musician and Manga-ka.  In the anime, KOOGY sings “GET UP” which is from VAMPS’ 2nd album “BEAST“.  (Original song is in English, but HYDE translated it to Japanese for “KOOGY”.)  The “GET UP” Japanese version will be self-covered by HYDE, and will be included in VAMPS’ upcoming single “MEMORIES” set to be released on December 15th.   The date of broadcast for the episode in which “HYDE” makes an appearance will be announced on the January 17th edition of “Weekly Shonen Jump.”

[Updated w/audio] YUI announces new single for 2011!

 

Singer/songwriter YUI has announced that her first release for 2011 will be a double-A side called “It’s My Life/Your Heaven“. The new single will come out officially on January 26th, and boasts two new tracks from the artist.
“Your Heaven” was made as a part of the ‘Play You‘ Sony Walkman campaign, which sent YUI to Sweden in order to find inspiration for a song based around the themes, ‘place’ and ’sound’.
The single will also be available early on December 15th via Chaku-Uta cell downloads for fans to enjoy.

Beginning today, fans of the group PANDA 1/2 can now order M!nam!’s original model guitar.
The guitar, named “PANDA3“, is a Fernandes “ZO-3″ with an original body designed by the singer, M!nam!. It’s also the same one that she uses at the PANDA 1/2’s concerts.
People who purchase the model will get a special gift – an original Panda 1/2 music score for the group’s second single, “Chuukagai UkiUki Tooru“, and a signed pick from PANDA 1/2 members. Also, a certain amount of the proceeds from guitar sales will go to the WWF for endangered species.

AKB48 member Itano Tomomi to release a solo single, “Dear J”

 AKB48 member Itano Tomomi has made an announcement that she will be releasing a solo single, titled “Dear J“, on January 26th!  She will be the first member to debut solo among the AKB48 members.
The announcement was made at AKB48’s handshake event for “Beginner“, which was held on December 11th at Ajinomoto Stadium.  Itano explained that it will be a “dance song”, and she also said, “Since I’m always with the members, I feel a little pressured, but debuting solo has been my dream, so please continue to support me.”

AI releases PV for “Let it Go” featuring Snoop Dogg

 

R&B singer AI recently released her new album, “The Last AI“, on December 1st, but her video for the featured track, “Let it Go feat. Snoop Dogg“, has only just made its way online.
The song was originally released on her “STRONGER feat. Kato Miliyah” single back in October as just a b-side.  Luckily for fans, the song was popular enough to warrant a video release and a place on the new album.
Snoop Dogg appears in the video next to the R&B star AI rapping his mellow lyrics from a throne.  AI changes her style in the video multiple times; rocking everything from a flowing kimono to her new shaved head fashion and green hair.
The collaboration is just one of many with Western musicians on her new album.  AI also teamed up with famous singers Boys II Men, Chaka Kahn, and Judith Hill, making this album quite the unique collection of collaborative tracks.

Tokyo Jihen announces new single for 2011

 

Rock band Tokyo Jihen will release a new single on February 23, 2011, but the title has yet to be announced.

This will be the band’s first physical single in over a year, though they did release a digital single this year, called “Tengoku e Yokoso/Dopa-mint“, that placed #36 on Billboard’s Japan Hot 100.
Tokyo Jihen (a.k.a. Tokyo Incidents) is a band formed by Shiina Ringo back in 2004.  Originally a solo singer that debuted in 1998 under EMI, she can be categorized as a rock musician, but her music is very eclectic.

The e.p will come in two types. (Regular & Limited)

The regular & the limited will contain the song "WHAT'S MY NAME?" as well a version with a special guest appearance on bass.

The limited one will come with a bonus DVD including music videos for "SURVIVE" "TORTURE" and "WHAT'S MY NAME?" as well as footage from EMI ROCKS Live and Tour in Tokyo 2010 "Screaming Out from Tokyo.

T.M. Revolution to celebrate his 15th year anniversary at Sanrio Puroland!

On December 7th, T.M. Revolution (Nishikawa Takanori) held a press conference at Sanrio Puroland, during which he announced that he would be holding a special event celebrating his 15th career anniversary at the theme park.
He’s decided to schedule the event for May 13th, 2011, marking exactly 15 years since his debut.
Nishikawa collaborated with Sanrio back in 2005, and they’ve kept in touch ever since. The artist also announced that he composed a new song titled “Thousands Morning Refrain” as the image song for Sanrio Puroland’s 20th anniversary. No word yet on if the song will see a physical release.
The details for Nishikawa’s anniversary event at Sanrio Puroland are still in their planning stages, but for now, it’s been revealed that Nishikawa and the Sanrio characters will perform on a special stage together.

Visual-kei band, heidi. to appear on Kazama Shunsuke’s upcoming movie

Back in October, we reported that Kazama Shunsuke will be starring in a movie titled “Maebashi Visual-kei,” which will portray a son of a farmer trying to make it big in a visual-kei band.  It’s been recently announced that a popular visual-kei band, heidi. will make an appearance in the movie.
heidi. will also sing the theme song “Gekkou Show Time” which will be released in February 2nd as a single.
Other than Kazama and heidi., Kato Kazuki, Morishita Yuri, Diamond☆Yukai, Martin Friedman will also make appearances, and “Maebashi Visual-kei” will be released in February 2011!

ViVid : Yume~Mugen no Kanata for Level E Ending theme

ViViD's Major Debut Song to Become Ending Theme of Anime

It is announced that the work of Yoshihiro Togashi, who has created popular manga such as “HUNTER x HUNTER” and “Yuyu Hakusho”, will be adapted into anime soon. This time, the manga to be adapted is “Level E”, which has been serialized in the magazine “Weekly Shonen Jump” for one month. It has been more than 10 years since the comic strip ends, but it is still very popular among fans.
The broadcast of the anime will start since January 2011. The opening theme song will be sung by Kuriyama Chiaki, while the ending theme song “Yume~Mugen no Kanata~” is the major debut number of ViViD, which will be released on January 9th.
According to Shin, the vocal of ViViD, “I’m totally attracted by ‘Level E’, which describes the large scale of the whole universe and the world, exactly which we want to express through ‘Yume~Mugen no Kanata’.” And the number “Yume~Mugen no Kanata~” will be available for preview on the official website of ViViD EPIC Record since December 9th.
