Ashida Mana becomes the youngest lead star in Japanese drama history

At six years of age, popular child actress Ashida Mana will be a lead star in upcoming special drama, “Sayonara Bokutachi no Youchien” (NTV), which will be broadcasted in March.  As a result, Ashida will be the youngest lead star in Japanese drama history.
The drama will be about five kids who are about to graduate from the kindergarten, and it’s described as a “Kindergarten version of ‘Stand By Me’“.  The title of the drama was named after a song which has been sung by kids at the graduation ceremony at kindergartens, and at the end of the drama, the kindergarteners will sing the chorus to the song
For the special drama, the same staff from NTV’s drama, “Mother“, which is the show that made Ashida Mana popular, will unite again.  Ashida, who will be entering into elementary school this spring (in her real life), commented, “I have very few opportunities to co-star with people in my age group, so I’m looking forward to staying with them.”
The special drama is projected to be yet another touching drama on the resume of Ashida.

Yamashita Tomohisa starts his first solo Asia tour

NEWS member Yamashita Tomohisa just started his solo Asia tour, “TOMOHISA YAMASHITA ASIA TOUR 2011 Super Good Super Bad“, at HITEC Star Hall in Hong Kong.

Yamashita appeared on stage, receiving enthusiastic “Yamapi!” calls, and he performed “Daite Senorita“, “Fever to Future“, and “Seishun Amigo” as the opening songs, and grabbed the hearts of 4,000 fans.  When Yamashita performed “Seishun Amigo” on the stage, while being surrounded by the audience on all side, almost all of those in attendance were dancing to the song with Yamashita.
A total 25 songs were performed during the live concert, and Yamashita said to the fans, “I knew you guys (fans in Hong Kong) were very powerful, but it was just way beyond my expectations.  I will study the language more, and I want to sing Hong Kong songs next time!”
Although he has held a live concert with NEWS in Taiwan back in 2007, this was his first solo concert overseas.  During the concert, Yamashita gave handshakes on his own accord, and he even went down to the auditorium.
The live concerts in Hong Kong were held on January 29th and the 30th, so Yamashita said that he watched the Japan’s performance in the Asian Cup Final at the hotel room after the concert.  Since he is in good contact with one of the Japanese team’s player, Nagatomo Yuto, who had the game winning assist, Yamashita gave congratulations to his friend, saying, “Nagatomo was amazing.  He encouraged me.  Congratulations.”
It’s been a whole nine years since any Johnny’s Entertainment artist has held a live concert in Hong Kong, however, it seems like the popularity of JE boys, including Yamashita, is still quite high.  Since the tickets for the two live concerts in Hong Kong were sold out in an hour, there were two more additional stages.  Thus, Yamashita held four stages in total in two days.
With this Asia tour, Yamashita will also visit Taiwan, Korea, and Thailand, apart from the five locations in Japan.  He said, “I would like to dwindle the distances in this world.  I would hope I could make people in other countries think, ‘Idols in Japan are pretty fun.’”

Cast members of GANTZ celebrate the first day of its release

The highly anticipated new movie, “GANTZ“, starring Ninomiya Kazunari (Arashi) and Matsuyama Kenichi, was finally released in 410 theaters across Japan on January 29th!

To celebrate the occasion, the cast members (Ninomiya, Matsuyama, Yoshitaka Yuriko, Hongo Kanata, Natsuna, Taguchi Tomorowo, Yamada Takayuki) visited TOHO Cinemas Scalaza (Hibiya, Tokyo) to greet the audience.

Ninomiya commented on the meeting, “We are finally here.  Other cast members and staffs who could not attend today are nevertheless pleased.”  Matsuyama added, “Since we all tried our best, it’s sad that some scenes were not included after the editing finished.  I wish people could watch the unreleased scenes as well.”

At the end of the stage greeting, a big balloon, which was supposed to imitate a “GANTZ” ball, was thrown into the auditorium, and the audience enjoyed rolling the big balloon around.

The final half of GANTZ, “PART II”, is scheduled to be released on April 23rd.

Morning Musume’s Tanaka Reina goes on a date

It is well-known that members of Morning Musume are forbidden from dating, but it doesn’t look like Tanaka is breaking any of the rules. The idol cheerfully blogged, “Today I have a date! …Just kidding (lol) The guy next to me is my little brother (´∀`)”
Fans fawned over the adorable purikura shots, commenting, “I wish I could be Reina’s younger brother,” “You might get mistaken for a real couple,” and “From what I can see of his face, your brother’s as cute as you are.”

ICONIQ’s boyfriend, Tadanari Lee, wins Asian Cup for Japan + “Hoot” celebration?

The boyfriend of singer ICONIQ, fourth generation Zainichi Korean soccer player, Tadanari Lee (Lee Choong Sung), has recently become a hot topic for his celebration after his game-winning goal in the Asian Cup Final against Australia.
On January 30th, Japan went head-to-head with Australia at the Khalifa Stadium in Qatar for the 2011 Asian Cup Final. During the 4th minute of extended time, Tadanari Lee fired in Yuto Nagatomo’s cross with a beautiful volley shot that eventually lead Japan to a 1-0 victory.
As soon as he scored the goal, the soccer player sprinted to the spectators in joy and drew an imaginary bow back and shot an arrow into the crowd.  Many have speculated that it was a nod to SNSD’s “Robin Hood” dance from “Hoot“, or that it was dedicated to ICONIQ, who he has been reportedly dating since March of 2010.

AKB48’s Ohshima Yuko shows great pleasure for “Zaccheroni Japan”

 

AKB48 member, Ohshima Yuko made a new blog entry about the Japanese soccer team winning the Asia Cup 2011!  She posted many messages of support for The Japan national association football team on her blog during the AFC Asian Cup 2011.

Ohshima wrote, “Japanese team led by the manager Zaccheroni, has finally become Asian champion!!  I’m still soaked with the afterglow of joy.  I’m really really happy (´TдT`)!!!!!  The player, Nagatomo’s nice assist, GK, Kawashima’s guardian save…  Although I was in a cold sweat for Kewell’s move, it was a great match…  Since I had to wake up at 5 in the morning, I couldn’t get enough sleep, but I’m full of happiness.  The players of the Japanese team, great job, and congratulations!!!!!”
She received over 4,800 comments on the post, and everybody divides great pleasures with Ohshima.
